Ruben D. Aguilar, Assistant Athletic Director / Associate Professor of Kinesiology

Ruben D. Aguilar proudly serves as the Assistant Athletic Director and Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Norco College. A Norco College alumnus himself, Aguilar’s journey from student to campus leader embodies the spirit of perseverance, service, and community that defines Mustang Athletics.

A U.S. Army veteran and former Airborne Infantryman, Aguilar brings the same discipline, leadership, and teamwork that shaped his military service to his work in education and athletics. Since joining Norco College, he has played a pivotal role in advancing athletic opportunities and student engagement most notably spearheading the launch of Norco College’s Women’s Flag Football program, the first of its kind in Riverside County. Under his leadership, the program has grown into a trailblazing force, building partnerships with local high schools, universities, and community organizations to create a pathway for student-athletes to compete, lead, and thrive both on and off the field.

In addition to his administrative role, Aguilar continues to teach in the Kinesiology and Health Science programs, inspiring students through hands-on, wellness-focused learning that connects classroom knowledge to real-world applications. His teaching philosophy centers around motivation, inclusion, and building future leaders through fitness, sport, and education.

Currently pursuing his Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership at California Baptist University, Aguilar’s research focuses on veteran student success, grit, and resiliency in higher education. His life and work reflect his guiding mantra: “WIN EVERYTHING – Built, Not Given.”

Outside of Norco College, Aguilar remains active in his community as a husband, father of 5 kids, mentor, coach, and advocate for veteran and first-generation college students.

“Ruben Aguilar exemplifies why the RCCD Alumnus of the Year award was created, said RCCD Chancellor, Wolde-ab Isaac. “He joins a long list of individuals who have used their knowledge, personal skillset, and life's purpose to impact others."
