Coach Ruben Aguilar has been a driving force in the growth of women’s flag football in the Inland Empire. His journey with the sport began during his service in the U.S. Army, where he competed in the base league at Fort Richardson, Alaska, against other military units. Those experiences fueled a lifelong passion for competition, leadership, and building opportunities through sport.
At Norco College, Coach Aguilar founded the women’s flag football program, establishing the first collegiate team in Riverside County. Under his leadership, the program quickly became a model for others, including Moreno Valley College, where he worked directly with faculty to help launch their own women’s flag football team—making MVC the second program in the Riverside Community College District to join the movement.
Beyond building teams, Coach Aguilar has been a spearheading voice for the sport’s future across the Inland Empire. He has presented at local events, community forums, and board meetings to advocate for the growth of women’s flag football and share the vision for where the sport is headed. His leadership is not only shaping the game on the field but also driving awareness and opportunity throughout the region.
What makes Norco College’s program unique is Coach Aguilar’s dual role as both Head Coach and Associate Faculty in Kinesiology and Health Science. With expertise in the study of human movement, he bridges athletics and academics, guiding student-athletes to excel in their sport while also helping them navigate higher education. Now serving as the Assistant Athletic Director, Coach Aguilar continues to expand opportunities for students while ensuring Norco College’s women’s flag football program remains at the forefront of this emerging sport.
